Disaster Recovery as a Service

Disaster Recovery – Why it’s Vital to Business Continuity?

Businesses typically settle for general answers when choosing disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) without giving enough regard to their own unique needs. Here are five areas to consider when selecting a solution:

  1. What are your recovery expectations? What data and applications will you need access to - and how quickly will you need it? The demands of a just-in-time parts supplier are different than those of a medical facility, e-commerce business, or restaurateur. You need to know the obligations and how you'll need to meet them. These factors will help us determine how quickly you need to get back up and running. A solution that falls short of meeting these is not going to be the right one for you.
  2. Is your workforce on-site or remote? Site-dependent enterprises using custom applications, such as manufacturing, operate within different constraints than a distributed sales team using off-the-rack business applications. The amount of data, the speed of transfer, and type of applications all determine whether a public cloud or private colocation solution will work best.
  3. Is disruption-free testing possible? This solution only works when you do regular tests. Can testing be done without interrupting the normal workflow? If not, the effect on your business processes might prove to be the very disaster the system is supposed to protect you against. Make sure the solution you choose won't adversely affect your operations.
  4. Is the solution cost-proportionate? A fully-qualified solution comes at a cost- and that cost rises when dedicated infrastructure is involved. The significant expense may be supportable in mission-critical, high-risk instances, but while high costs may be justifiable, it may not be necessary. Make sure that costs are proportionate to the possible damages you're working to prevent.
  5. Does the solution support multiple platforms? This one is critical and all too often overlooked. The emerging "BYOD" (Bring Your Own Devices) culture means that your employees may be working on a wide range of non-standard issue applications, operating systems, and devices. In most instances, your Disaster Recovery (DR) solution needs to be platform-agnostic because different platform instances can be different between production and disaster recovery.

Every great idea, project and partnership starts with a conversation. Contact Red Level at 248-412-8200 and let's start changing the game.

No Need to Worry, We Have Six Key Components To Help You Choose The Right Disaster Recovery Solution

As a leader, Red Level understands the cost of unexpected downtime and the long-term effects it can have on your business, which is why we provide disaster recovery and business continuity planning. This solution ensures that you are not only planning for the unexpected but are ready and waiting.

  • Preventative. By taking the time to put together a Disaster Recovery (DR) plan, you’re saving yourself months or even years of recovery down the road if a disaster were to happen. Think about your business. How important is your data?
  • Assurance. With a plan in place, your data will be protected beyond a promise with a documented plan for prevention and recovery. Wouldn’t you want your data protected?
  • Standard. Businesses change, and so do the people who work within them. If you have a new IT Manager starting at your company, how do you expect them to be able to properly handle an unexpected disaster without a company-approved plan in place? In reality, we would hope that any new employee would have the skills to handle a disaster, but having a standard to adhere to is crucial.
  • Communication. Part of this plan includes the contact information of all applicable parties involved. Wouldn’t you rather have a contact list already compiled, rather than scrolling through the endless contact files on your phone?
  • Coverage. Whether you have one office or several branch locations, a Disaster Recovery (DR) plan will ensure that all facets of the company are considered and protected. With all branches organized, chaos and disorganization becomes minimal.
  • Peace of Mind. Running your business, writing that report, or even thinking about what to have for dinner tonight are all common traits for many of us. Worrying what could happen to your data in the event of a disaster is one more thing you don’t need on your mind.
